Release Day Review: Red Gold by Capes

Series: Sennenwolf #4
Genre: Fantasy Romance

“We can dream all we want, but we’re better off bracing for nightmares. Tell me you will forsake them, Samson. Tell me you will forsake every wolf in Velm if they threaten us.”

With the Afadors back in Bellator, Velm is recovering from months of violent upheaval. But the Leolites still hold Wrenweary—and they’re after a mighty weapon known as the Sennenwolf. Whoever finds it first will have the upper hand in the ongoing power struggles left from Ezit’s destruction.

But concrete sources on the Sennenwolf are few and far between. Its resting place is said to be in Tet, a land of ghosts and fog, where Vexen magic has chosen to create its latest Landmark.

When Velm sends Samson 714 Afador to Tet to find the Sennenwolf, Helisent West of Jaws agrees to join the search.

As the wolf and the witch attempt to track down the mega-weapon, pressing questions about their future come into focus. What happens to Velm if its Kulapsifang refuses to take the throne? And will Helisent West of Jaws wait for that future to pan out?

In Book 4 of the Sennenwolf Series, one semi-red boy-wolf and his formidable witch head west to delve into the mysteries of the past—but they aren’t the only ones desperate for answers.

**ARC provided in exchange for an honest review**

The recap at the beginning helps, but it still took me a couple of chapters to get back into the world and the characters. Once I did, I was fully into it. The story moves at a great pace, and even with 600 pages, there was never a dull moment.

In Red Gold, the story picks up as Velm recovers from months of upheaval, and Samson 714 Afador is sent west to the fog covered land of Tet in search of the legendary Sennenwolf weapon. Helisent West of Jaws joins him, and together they navigate not only the dangers of their mission but also the emotional questions around their future. Their bond deepens in such a meaningful way, and their character development continues to be one of the strongest parts of the series.

There is a good mix of everything here. Action, magic, mystery, character moments, and even some real suspense that kept me on the edge of my seat. The pacing felt strong and the unfolding mysteries kept me fully engaged. Also, the side characters also really stand out. They each bring something meaningful to the story and help build out the world in a way that feels natural.

One of the most original fantasy series I have read, and Red Gold is a strong and satisfying addition to it. I am really impressed by how the story keeps expanding without losing its heart. I am looking forward to seeing how everything wraps up in the final book.
