Release Day Review: A Hard Day for a Hangover by Darynda Jones

Series: Sunshine Vicram #3
Genre: Mystery
Publisher: St. Martin’s Press

Some people greet the day with open arms. Sheriff Sunshine Vicram would rather give it a hearty shove and get back into bed, because there’s just too much going on right now. There’s a series of women going missing, and Sunny feels powerless to stop it. There’s her persistent and awesomely-rebellious daughter Auri, who’s out to singlehandedly become Del Sol’s youngest and fiercest investigator. And then there’s drama with Levi Ravinder—the guy she’s loved and lusted after for years. The guy who might just be her one and only. The guy who comes from a family of disingenuous vipers looking to oust him—and Sunshine—for good.

Like we said, the new day can take a hike.

I totally forgot that this was a trilogy and realized this was the final book when I read the synopsis. I am pretty sad because I have come to love all the characters and wouldn't have minded more books with them in them. Darynda Jones writes such great characters and the Sunshine Vicram series was mostly lighthearted and fun, but it also had its emotional and suspenseful moments. Everything was wrapped up perfectly in this book but it did feel a bit rushed toward the end. Some secrets should've been revealed earlier in the series. Sheriff Sunshine has again a lot on her plate. She has to solve many cases but thankfully she has amazing coworkers who are very capable.

I absolutely LOVE Sun's daughter Auri, and again immensely enjoyed the parts told from her POV. She is such a bright young lady, and was very helpful like always. I would love a spinoff series focusing on Auri. She and her Sun just have the best mother/daughter relationship. Sun's love interest Levi is a hot, broody, and mysterious guy. Things got pretty heated in this book and I loved seeing Sun and Levi working through their things. This book made me laugh and smile a lot, but it also had me emotional and on the edge of my seat a well. Overall, this is a great conclusion to the trilogy but I'm definitely going to miss everyone. Fans of Darynda Jones or/and this series will love this book.
