Deceitful, an all-new friends-to-lovers fantasy romance from USA Today bestselling author Cora Reilly writing as C. Reilly is available now!

When a serial killer rocks a small town in Oregon, a young woman with special powers might be the only person able to stop him. As part of a secret branch of the FBI, Tessa is sent on a mission to impersonate Madison, a local teen and the last victim of the brutal attacker, to find the killer before he strikes again.

As if absorbing the DNA of someone else and pretending to be them wasn’t hard enough, Alec, the guy she’s been in love with for years, is joining her on the dangerous mission. Tessa knows she can’t let her feelings for him get in the way, especially as her crush seems hopeless. Not only is Alec her self-defense teacher but he's also taken. If only the attraction between them would stop complicating everything!

Will Tessa find the killer before another person falls victim to him? Or will she lose herself in a life she’s always longed for but never had?

Deceitful is Cora Reilly's first book under her new pseudonym C. Reilly. This is a supernatural romantic suspense and focuses on Tessa, who is part of a secret branch of the FBI. She is sent on a mission (her first!) to impersonate Madison, a local teen and the last victim of a brutal attacker, to find the killer. I really liked the atmosphere Cora created for this book, she did a great job in portraying and making me believe I really was present in a small town in Oregon. The plot was also pretty original, I have read many romantic suspense novels but haven't read that many with a touch of supernatural.

I was going into this story thinking it was a standalone so I had expectations in regards to character growth and romance. The suspense in my opinion was done really well, and I know that in romantic suspense novels the romance can't be totally in the foreground but I just didn't feel a connection between the characters Tessa and her crush/love interest Alec. He unfortunately didn't make me swoon at all and the romance felt a bit immature. Which is normal from Tessa's POV because it's her first crush but I was indifferent towards Alec and couldn't connect to him. I really hope their romance will develop more in the next book. I really liked Tessa and I look forward to seeing her grow more in the next book.
