Review Blitz: Pieces Of Me by Jay McLean

January 18, 2022

“I loved you then,
I love you now,
and I’ve loved you every single day in between.”

Jameson Taylor is a nomad. A drifter. A memory collector.
Or, at least, that’s what’s become of her life ever since she was forced to leave pieces of her fractured heart behind.

“This is the fault in our fate, our one undoing:
All he’s ever wanted is my happiness,
even when it costs him his own.”

Holden Eastwood is resentful. Angry. But most of all, hurt.
Torn to pieces by the girl who left him, he struggles to find forgiveness in the organ she once broke.

When a tragedy forces them to face the aftermath, Jamie seeks acceptance, while Holden searches for answers.
What they find, instead, are remnants of their love.
Fragments of forever.
And parts of a puzzle that will lead them to the truth…
A truth that might shatter them to pieces.

“And as fucked up as it is… as much as I want to hurt her… I want to protect her even more. And maybe that’s always been my focus. My downfall.”

Pieces of Me is a beautiful, emotional, and uplifting conclusion to the duet. I absolutely fell in love with the characters and feel privileged to have witnessed the journey of Holden and Jamie's (love) story. Jay McLean is such an incredible author and definitely the queen of emotional/angsty new adult romance. I already knew I was going to shed a lot of tears so I was prepared for the heartbreak part two. This duet is so much more than just a love story. It is a story about broken characters who fall down but always find a way to get up again (with and without the help of their loved ones). Jamie and Holden will always hold a special place in my heart and their journey was not an easy one. I cried and laughed with them. This duet is one of my all time favorite opposites-attract new adult romance.

“She’s standing right in front of me—a vision. A dream. And I know in my heart I could live a thousand lifetimes with every single broken piece of her, and I would never, ever stop loving each and every one.”

I was fully invested in their relationship but also in their personal growth. They did so much growing as individuals and as a couple. They had their ups and downs but at the end everything came together perfectly. All the side characters played such important roles and they really helped in elevating the story to a whole 'nother level. Everything was perfect about this book. The writing was phenomenal and I really love that the author really took the time to tell Holden and Jamie's story. This book was long but it just wouldn't have had the same impact if it was shorter. There was no rushing but it wasn't boring either. This is my first 5 star read of the year and I already can't wait to see what Jay McLean will write next. I highly recommend this duet to every romance reader.
