Release Day Review: Jack & Sadie by J.B. Salsbury

October 07, 2019

Sadie Slade was the love of my life.

I left for college promising her I’d be back in four years.
She stayed behind promising me she’d wait.
We both broke our promises.
When we bump into each other five years later my feelings for her come rushing to the surface.
I want her back.
She wants me gone.
How quickly my Sadie Girl has forgotten—I’ve never been the type of man who accepts defeat.
No matter the cost.

Jack Daniels was my entire life.

Until he wasn’t.
Now he’s back and thinks we should pick up where we left off.
I miss the simplicity of what we had.
I miss how easily we fit together.
Truthfully…I miss him.
But if I allow him to get too close, he’ll see I’m not the same girl he left behind five years ago.
He thinks I’m upset about our break up.
The truth is so much worse.

"We were made to be together. No one will ever take your place, not in my heart or in my life."

Jack & Sadie is a (childhood) friends-to-lovers second-chance romance. Jack is the son of Blake and Layla from Fighting to Forgive, and Sadie is the daughter of Jonah and Raven from Fighting for Flight. I love the Fighting series so I was pretty excited when I heard Jamie was writing this book. We get a little taste of Jack and Sadie in Uncaged: A Fighting for Flight Short Story, where Sadie is seventeen and going on her first real date with Jack. This book starts off with Jack leaving for college on the other side of the country, but they promise each other that they will start their new life together when they are done with school. However, four years is a long time and sometimes not everything goes as planned.

"It was like I'd gone so long without the missing piece of my soul, I'd forgotten it was even missing. But after seeing you again, the emptiness I feel without you is unbearable."

I enjoyed this book a lot, but I wish there were a couple of flashbacks to get a feel of their past relationship. Normally, I am not a big fan of flashbacks, but I felt like it would've been a great addition in this story. There were a couple of heartbreaking scenes in this book, and my heart went out to Sadie. Jack is persistent and really loves her. It was obvious these two were made for each other, and I loved seeing them come together again. I also loved that we got reunited with the couples from the Fighting series, and it really made me want to reread their stories. Jack & Sadie was a romantic and emotional second-chance romance, and I really didn't want to say goodbye to the characters. This book can be read as a stand-alone, but I still highly recommend you check out the Fighting series.
