 slip of the tongue affair

 Excerpt

In his dimly-lit kitchen, Finn lays a comforting hand on my shoulder. “I have to tell you something.”My hairline prickles. I can sense whatever he says will be heavy, and I’m not sure I want to hear it. I force a crooked smile that probably looks as awkward as I feel. Since I just fed Ginger, I joke, “What? I smell like dog food?”“I want to kiss you,” he says without missing a beat. “I won’t, but I just thought you should know.”My stomach drops as if I’m in free fall. I bite my lip involuntarily, then release it, afraid it’ll look like an invitation. Can he really come out and say that? Without prompting, without wavering? You can want to kiss someone and not say it. Should I be angry he confessed that? I’m not. I’m curious. Stirred, even. And because we’re being honest, I ask what I want to ask. “Why?”“Why do I want to kiss you? Or why did I tell you?”My heart rate picks up. I lose my nerve. “The second one. That’s not the kind of thing you just come out and say to a stranger. A married stranger.”“I like you.” He absentmindedly caresses the nape of my neck with his fingertip. “So I want to be honest.”I put my hand over his wrist, and he stops. Now, and for the last hour, it’s as if we’re the only two people on the planet. The Bad Wife and the Stranger. If I let him kiss me, nobody would ever know. After all, Nathan might be kissing someone else too. Why else would he have lipstick on his tie? Finn doesn’t wear lipstick. Neither do I. It would be our secret.“You’re leaving, aren’t you?” he asks.Am I? I have to. I don’t trust myself to stay, and I don’t trust myself to speak, so I nod. I don’t have to pull his hand away. He takes it back willingly. And he walks me to his door.

BETUL'S REVIEW

**ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest review.**

"I wish Nathan would knock on the door. Drag me home. Put his own arms around me. Make love to me. Remembering his vows has made me warm inside, fuzzy."

First of all I LOVE the cover a lot! I visited NYC for the first time in 2014 and fell in love with the city! So I was pretty excited that this story took place there. This book is about Sadie who is happily married and then she isn't. Her husband Nathan has been distant and cold towards her for two months now and Sadie has no clue why. During this time a new guy moves in next door: Finn. He pays attention to her and wants to hang out. Sadie is craving warmth and companionship. It's like Nathan just doesn't have any time for her and ignores her. He is indifferent to her. Finn is the exact opposite!

"In so little time, you've lit up my world like the sun. And you've warmed me just the same."

I don't want to go in too much detail because I don't want to spoil it but let me tell you I was going back and forth between Nathan and Finn. I didn't know who she would end up with and who I actually wanted her to end up with. Jessica really wrote a beautiful story were you kind of root for all the characters, because they aren't bad people. They make bad decisions but who doesn't?

There was a couple of times I wanted to wring Nathan's neck. I just wanted him to open his mouth and tell Sadie what was going on. The same goes for Sadie, there were a couple of things she could've handled differently. Overall I really enjoyed this story a lot, the writing was really good and there wasn't a moment I got bored. It had a steady pace and just enough drama to keep me going. I am looking forward to reading more books by Jessica! Before I forget the sex scenes were PHENOMENAL, they were pretty steamy and I really enjoyed reading them.
