Tonight would not only be a reunion, but a rebirth. A renewal of hearts, a new start for what might have been had circumstance not snuffed out their passion.

She hurried to the bathroom, shut the door, and removed her clothes. With a quick turn, she brought her naked back into view of the mirror. She glanced over her shoulder at her reflection, taking one more look at her scars. Her eyes traveled down her spine, over her butt and upper thighs. Angry, puckered skin crisscrossed the area. They were a brand, marks of a life she wanted to leave behind. She looked away before tears formed. They usually did when confronted with the evidence of her father’s hatred of her.

For a second, she feared John’s reaction. He had seen a glimpse of the damage to her spine in his truck, but there were others, a lifetime’s worth of the evidence of her father’s horrific form of discipline.

Would John be revolted? Would he turn away from her?

1 - Can you introduce yourself and tell us what kind of books you write?

Hello everyone. My name is K. D. Friedrich and I'm a writer of contemporary and paranormal romance.

2- Tell us about SANDS OF TIME?

Sands of Time is a story about Jade, a single mom struggling to protect her son from her abusive past while fighting her attraction for John, the man she once risked everything to have. Suddenly, John's back in her life after six years and Jade's not at all happy about it. The secret that drove them apart back in high school still has the power to destroy all she's worked to protect. She tries to avoid John, but how do you avoid a man who shows up at every turn.

John Sands earned the title playboy cop for a reason. He did women, but not relationships. At least, that was, until Jade Santiago came back to town. Now he wants things. Things like family and commitment. If he can only get past her stubborn indifference and the chief of police, who happens to be her father and his boss, she'll end up right where she belongs in his arms and his bed.

3- Who is your favorite character that you've written and why?

Now that's a really hard question, because I like them all for different reasons. It's like trying to pick between your kids. It's an impossible decision. I can tell you what I like the most about my two leads in my latest release, Sands of Time. John Sands, my playboy cop, has a tough exterior, but he's all heart. He's protective, loyal, and confident. He'll do whatever it takes and risk anything to keep those he loves safe. Jade Santiago won me over from the very start. Her courage shocked me. With all she had gone through, she still managed to find the strength and faith to give and receive love.

4- What is the weirdest piece of research you had to do when writing SANDS OF TIME?

It's not a weird piece of research, but difficult. Since Jade grew up in an abusive home, I had to do a lot of research on child abuse and domestic violence. Learning about the subject and reading testimonials nearly brought me to tears.

5- What was the most surprising part of writing SANDS OF TIME?

The most surprising part of writing Sands Of Time was how easily the writing flowed. Most of the time I when I write, I have a moments of down time where the words don't come as easy. Not with Sands of Time. The story seemed to lead the way for me.

6- Do you have any writing rituals?

Before I write, I have to have a cup of coffee beside me and then silence. Sorry, I don't have any crazy writing quirks. If it helps, the coffee must be in my favorite tiger coffee cup.

7- What was the hardest and easiest scene to write?

The hardest scenes to write were definitely the scenes when Jade suffers the physical and emotional abuse from her father. These scenes drained me. It's difficult to imagine a father subjecting his child to such horrendous treatment. At times, I had to stop and take a breather. The easiest scenes, for me, are always the love scenes. I adore writing them. It's so much fun.

8- If you could co-write a book with any author who would it be and why?

No doubt, hands down, J. R. Ward. I am addicted to her books. I love her style. Her dialogue between characters is amazing. The emotional impact is dead on. Whether she's trying to make you laugh, cry, or groan in frustration, she never disappoints.

9- And final question. What can we expect from you next?

Right now, I'm working on two novels. Book 3 in the Heart Falls Heroes is about Stan Morrison, the easy going firefighter born to charm and Cat Cross, the flirty rocker looking for nothing but a good time. All I can say is Cat's giving Stan a run for his money in this installment. I'm hoping to have the story out this spring.

I'm also working on book 2 of my paranormal series, The Jettison Brotherhood. This book is about The Demon of Destruction and his only chance at redemption, the woman he thought he lost a century ago. One problem, he wasn't looking for deliverance. In fact, he'll deny it until his last breath. If all goes well, this book should be completed by early summer.

A graduate of NYIT, she earned a BS in Interdisciplinary Studies with concentrations in art, social science, psychology, and business. The culprit of that odd mixture was a severe case of indecision. She's an overprotective mother (her daughter's words), lifelong New Yorker, and an obsessed reader of everything romance.
